Morila Gold Mine

The Morila mine is owned by Randgold Resources (40%), AngloGold Ashanti (40%) and the Government of Mali (20%). The mine is managed as a joint venture between the two companies and operated, by Randgold Resources.

Morila has produced more than 5 million ounces of gold and disturbed an amount in excess of US$1.3 billion to its stakeholders since the mine began production in October 2000.

In the second quarter of 2009 Morila underwent a successful transition to a stockpile treatment operation.

A study has commenced to investigate the viability of developing a relatively large agricultural business in the area to explore options that might ensure the economic sustainability. The business could use some of the facilities and infrastructure that would become redundant when the mine closes and additionally employ some of the staff who would be retrenched.
