Tongon, given the go-ahead at the beginning of 2008, is now under construction and plans to pour its first gold in the fourth quarter of 2010. Continued drilling has increased the probable reserve to more than 3 million ounces.

Exploration is the engine that drives our organic growth. The major new discovery Massawa, currently at scoping study stage, heads a portfolio of 177 targets in the most prospective gold belts of West and East Africa.

New business will be generated by the exploration programmes, now also extended to the Congo Craton of Central Africa, as well as by the exploitation of external opportunities for profitable growth which are constantly evaluated.
