Mali South

Morila was discovered, developed and financed by Randgold. The mine was commissioned in October 2000 and, since inception to December 2011, has produced more than 6 million ounces of gold and paid more than US$2 billion to stakeholders.

The Morila mine is situated 280 kilometres south east of Bamako, the capital of Mali. The mine is a joint venture between Randgold (40%), AngloGold Ashanti (40%) and the State of Mali (20%). Randgold has been operating Morila since February 2008. Under its stewardship the mine was successfully converted from open pit mining to a stockpile treatment operation during 2009.
